High Performance Sport

Aldinga Payinthi College is home to a dynamic High Performance Sport Program designed to elevate aspiring athletes. Whether you’re driven to excel in your chosen sport or passionate about pursuing elite pathways, our program offers targeted training, expert coaching, and opportunities to compete at the highest level.

Our High Performance Sport Program empowers learners to reach their full potential through specialised training with expert coaches, including accomplished athletes and industry professionals. Our program is crafted to foster excellence in both sport and academics, guiding learners toward success in secondary education and future pathways in higher education or the sporting industry.

Our year 9 and 10 learners have the option to specialise in either AFL/AFLW or volleyball.

Learners will also get the opportunity to;

  • Participate in intensive training sessions four times a week
  • Develop coaching or officiating skills through accredited qualifications
  • Connect with peers who share similar sporting passions and goals
  • Explore potential pathways to University or TAFE
  • Observe elite athletes and professional training environments through field trips
  • Tailor their focus to a specific sport, aligning with personal ambitions and strengths

AFL Program

The High Performance Sport AFL and AFLW Programs provides a targeted learning pathway for Year 9–10 learners who are passionate about developing their skills, understanding and performance in Australian Rules Football.

Delivered in partnership with the South Adelaide Football Club and aligned with the SANFL Talent Pathway, the program provides authentic opportunities for learners to develop as footballers, leaders and young adults.

Grounded in the belief that “if you can see it, you can be it,” learners are connected with experienced coaches, elite players and authentic pathways within the game.

Learners develop across three key areas:

  • Technically – advanced skill development, refinement and game-based training
  • Tactically – game understanding, decision making, strategy and performance analysis
  • Physically – strength, conditioning and performance development

The program supports both AFL and AFLW pathways through specialist coaching, football training, match play and opportunities to develop knowledge and experience in areas such as officiating.

Throughout the year, learners participate in an intensive 8-week specialist development program led by elite players and coaches. This provides opportunities to receive personalised feedback, build confidence and enhance individual performance and game understanding.

Learners are also introduced to contemporary performance technology used in high-level sport, which may include Polar heart rate monitors, GPS tracking and drone vision. This helps learners understand how performance data can be used to monitor, analyse and improve their game.

Alongside football development, the program places a strong emphasis on academic progress, leadership, teamwork, communication and wellbeing. Learning may include goal setting and performance planning, nutrition and energy management, sports psychology, leadership and performance analysis.

Through this holistic approach, the High Performance Sport AFL and AFLW Program supports learners to pursue their football aspirations while developing the knowledge, skills and mindset to thrive both on and off the field.

Volleyball Program

The High Performance Sport Volleyball Program provides a dynamic learning pathway for Year 9–10 learners who are passionate about developing as athletes, teammates and leaders.

In partnership with the South Adelaide Volleyball Club and alongside the emerging Mid Coast Volleyball Club based at the college, learners are immersed in a growing and connected volleyball community. The program provides authentic opportunities to develop skills, build confidence and explore volleyball pathways at both competitive and recreational levels.

Building on the skills and knowledge developed in Year 9, learners participate in practical training and theory-based learning focused on advanced volleyball development and game performance.

Learners develop across key areas including:

  • Technical and tactical development through advanced skills, structured training and game strategy
  • Physical performance through volleyball-specific conditioning, plyometric training and fitness testing
  • Performance analysis through pre- and post-fitness testing, performance analysis and the application of sport science principles
  • Leadership and coaching through planning and delivering volleyball sessions, officiating and supporting younger learners
  • Wellbeing and preparation through learning about nutrition, hydration, recovery, injury prevention and management

Learners have opportunities to train alongside experienced club players and participate in specialised coaching sessions, developing their technical abilities, tactical understanding, physical performance, confidence and resilience.

The program also extends beyond the court. Learners develop leadership and community coaching skills by promoting volleyball and supporting younger learners within the college and wider community. They explore training principles, program design, biomechanics and other sport science concepts to understand how athletes can maximise their performance and development.

At Aldinga Payinthi College, we believe that opportunity creates aspiration. Through authentic experiences and strong community connections, the High Performance Sport Volleyball Program empowers learners to connect, belong and be inspired as they build foundations for future success in sport and life.
